Flibbertigibbet is a concept I first developed several years ago, born out of my own experiences as the sitter during tarot readings and other forms of divination. What struck me most was how little direct involvement I had. The reader, of course, is the guide—the gifted interpreter—and while I would cut or shuffle the cards, my role felt largely passive. I wanted something more. Something tactile. Something that allowed the sitter to actively participate in the process rather than simply observe it unfold.

It occurred to me that life itself is a game—whether we recognise it or not. Events, decisions, behaviours, and values all carry consequences. Each of us operates by a largely unconscious set of personal rules shaped by our worldview. These rules influence our direction, our opportunities, and ultimately, the outcomes of our lives.

If life contains elements of chance and choice, why shouldn’t divination reflect that as well?

Flibbertigibbet introduces a game-like framework into tarot and other card-based reading systems. It allows both reader and sitter to engage directly with the forces of randomness and personal decision. The roll of a die carries the same unpredictable nature as the shuffle of a deck—neither outcome can be known in advance. While our values shape our path, we are never entirely in control of what lies ahead.
