Death of Poe

£65.00

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.

The Locket is haunted! The grey haired man said very matter of fact. It was once owned by Mrs. Sarah Elmira Royster Shelton. She was Poe’s fiancée at the time of his death, and childhood sweetheart.

Haunted? I said.

So some claim, Mr. Elm, the curator of the Richmond museum stated.

They said it can act as a portal, and those that have been in its presence alone have claimed to hear voices, words of unearthly spirits vocalizing. Lenore……

Some say it can even reveal the mystery of Poe’s death!

Gemini Artifacts and Vince Wilson are proud to offer The Death of Poe. A complete routine designed for the mystery performer.

Example Routine:

A black envelope is brought out. A red velveteen pouch is removed from within, along with four cards. The cards are placed in front of the spectator. Each card depicts a theory on how Edgar Allan Poe died. The blood stained card represents murder; The others consist of Madness caused by rabies, Consumption or TB and finally Cooping.

The performer explains each card and the evidence supporting the theory. The velveteen pouch is opened and in it a locket is revealed. The spectator takes the locket and places it over each card waiting for a signal or even just a feeling. The Spectator places the locket over one of the cards, for example murder. (The Spectator has a completely free choice)

The performer reaches over to the initial black envelope and cleanly dumps the contents onto the performance table. Within, another envelope aged and sealed. The performer opens the envelope and hands the contents to the spectator. It is the police report stating that Poe was murdered as the Doctor claimed to have smelled Almonds (a clear sign of Arsenic poisoning) on his breath.

The locket is then opened by the spectator and a small piece of woman’s handkerchief is shown to have small spots of blood. It was used to clean Edgar’s mouth in the hospital.

The smell of almonds still lingers on it.
